IPPC Secretary Osama El-Lissy visits Uzbekistan Plant Quarantine and Protection Agency

Tashkent, Uzbekistan. 16 December 2022. International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretary Osama El-Lissy met the Director General of Uzbekistan’s Plant Quarantine and Protection Agency, Ibrahim Ergashev, and praised the significant work being carried on by the agency towards the objectives of the IPPC. Since Uzbekistan ratified the Convention in January 2020, it has harmonized 30 international phytosanitary standards in its national legislation.

During the visit, the IPPC Secretariat delegation was briefed on several activities that APPQ has been carrying out, including quarantine inspection, pest surveillance, and diagnostic support. The meeting concluded with the intention to further strengthen the cooperation between the IPPC and the agency, and to explore joint projects in support of protecting plant health and facilitating safe trade.
