Rome, 16 December 2022. The Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM) Focus Group on Communications has concluded the year with the draft Communications Strategy 2023-2030 that will guide the communication and advocacy of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) community.

The IPPC Communications Strategy 2023-2030 is a global roadmap on how the IPPC will leverage communications to raise global awareness on plant health, mobilize and engage stakeholders and advocate to policymakers to implement international standards on plant health. The latest strategy builds on previous ones by using a new approach, that is establishing a formal structure of two-way communication among the IPPC Secretariat and national and regional plant protection organizations (NPPOs, RPPOs), partners, donors, industry actors and other key stakeholders. Setting up a Community of Practice among communication professionals from these stakeholders intends to enjoin greater engagement and support and will maximize opportunities to further the global efforts in plant protection.

The CPM Focus Group on Communication, composed of 12 members from various sectors, was established by CPM-15 to guide the development of the strategy. The IPPC Communications Strategy 2023-2030 was opened for consultation to NPPOs, RPPOs and IPPC partners in November. The updated draft will be presented for adoption at CPM-17 in March 2023.
