Brief Biography
Dr. Adriana G. Moreira is a distinguished leader at the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat, currently serving as the Officer in Charge (OiC) of the Integration & Support Team (IST). With over 17 years of experience and a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology (Virology), she provides strategic leadership for global phytosanitary policies. In her current role, she oversees the Secretariat’s core operations, managing communications, knowledge management, and the coordination of key governing bodies, including the CPM, Bureau, and the Strategic Planning Group (SPG). She also now plays a pivotal role in coordinating high-level flagship events such as the International Day of Plant Health (IDPH).
Previously, as Deputy Lead of the Standard Setting Unit (SSU), she facilitated the adoption of over 60 International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPMs), including the first 30 diagnostic protocols and the landmark “next generation” of commodity standards. She serves as a vital liaison with international organizations to align objectives for plant health, food security, and environmental protection. Additionally, she acts as the IPPC’s gender focal point and an SDG2 (Zero Hunger) advocate, specifically focusing on “safe humanitarian aid.”
Beyond her policy work, Dr. Moreira is an accomplished researcher and educator, having authored numerous scientific publications and serving as an invited professor at several Brazilian universities. Before joining the IPPC, she was a senior plant pathologist in the multinational seed industry and a post-entry quarantine lead in Latin America and led several IPM projects. Her global impact has earned her the “FAO 100 Young Employees Award” (2019), recognition on the Forbes list of “50 Women Taking Agriculture from Brazil to the World” (2024), and the NSP “Optimistic Influencer” Award (2025). She is proficient in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
