Brief Biography
She supports assessments of national phytosanitary systems, helping countries align plant health project proposals with their strategic priorities and contributes to enhancing the PCE tool. Shaza also evaluates pest threats for the IPPC’s Pest Outbreak Alert System (POARS), contributes to the work of the POARS Steering Group and coordinates activities Near East and North Afr ica region, on behalf of the IPPC Secretariat. Previously, she served as a Senior Agricultural Specialist at the United States Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service, where she analysed data across key sectors, identified and helped resolve sanitary and phytosanitary trade barriers. While serving as a Senior Phytosanitary Officer at the Egyptian Plant Quarantine, she oversaw trade compliance and international plant health relations. Shaza has contributed to standard-setting and terminology work, served as Vice-Chair of the IPPC Standards Committee and consulted with FAO’s Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa, on plant protection and agribusiness. An Egyptian national, she has a bachelor’s degree in Plant Protection and a master’s degree in Organisational Sociology.
