Brief Biography
Yousria supports the development and review of technical materials, enhancing the quality of IPPC documents in Arabic and improving the content of the International Phytosanitary Portal. She is involved in analyzing national reports, addressing implementation challenges, developing tools for pest outbreak response, refining pest survey protocols and organizing the IPPC Regional Workshop for the Near East and North Africa region.
Yousria has over 17 years of experience in plant pathology, phytosanitary measures, molecular diagnostics and food safety. She is a Plant Quarantine Officer and Consultant for the Plant Quarantine Directorate in Port Sudan and a member of the Plant Quarantine Experts Committee.
Her experience includes leading diagnostic laboratories, diagnostic protocols adoption, conducting pest risk analyses, updating national pest lists, training plant health officers and university undergraduate students and contributing to national phytosanitary policy development.
Previously, Yousria headed the Plant Quarantine Laboratory at the Khartoum International Airport, which was under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. In this role, she led diagnostic operations and laboratory rehabilitation and supported capacity-building in the plant health sector and cross-border agricultural inspections.
Yousria has a Master of Science in Plant Pathology from the University of Khartoum and a Postgraduate Diploma in English General Translation from the University of Bahri. She speaks English and Arabic.
