WTO Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures Activities for 2022

The WTO Secretariat will organize a number of specific technical assistance activities on the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement) in 2022. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most SPS activities will be delivered virtually.

These activities are:

• E-Learning Course on the SPS Agreement (https://wtolearning.csod.com)
• E-Learning course in English, French and Spanish available throughout the year.

National SPS Seminars

• Upon request by any WTO Member or Observer submitting a request for a WTO National SPS Seminar through the Technical Assistance Management System: https://tamis.wto.org/user/login.

Thematic SPS Workshop on Transparency (in English, French and Spanish)

• Virtual and in-person delivery: 20 June 2022.
• Open to all WTO Members and Observers attending the SPS Committee meeting in June 2022, as well as government officials through their respective delegations.

SPS Transparency Champions Course (in English)

• Virtual sessions (and in-person sessions, if possible): Several transparency-related sessions and activities to be held during the period October 2022 to March/May 2023.
• Eligible WTO Members and Observers: Government officials from SPS National Notification Authorities and/or National Enquiry Points of English-speaking African countries.

2022 Course on Essentials for SPS Committee Participation (in French)

• Virtual delivery: Several course sessions of 1.5-2hrs to be held during November 2022.
• Eligible WTO Members and Observers: Least-developed and developing countries.
• Pre-requisite: Candidates are strongly encouraged to complete the WTO E-Learning Course on the SPS Agreement. Priority may be given to those candidates who have successfully completed this e-Learning Course.

Regional SPS Workshops

• Regional SPS workshops will be held upon request from regional organizations.
• To submit a request: Regional organizations (or a Member in conjunction with a regional organization) must submit an official letter indicating the purpose and expected outcome of the workshop, their expected contribution and the proposed dates. This formal request should be addressed to the Director of the Institute for Training and Technical Co-operation (ITTC) and sent by e-mail to: [email protected].
• Programmes, pre-requisites and selection criteria will be defined for each requested activity.
