The International Year of Plant Health (IYPH) 2020 will be presented as a side event at the twenty-fifth session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference of parties (COP25) in Madrid, Spain. "Towards the International Year of Plant Health in 2020: Protecting Plants, Protecting Lives" will take place on Tuesday, 10 December 2019 from 1.45 to 2.45 pm.
Keynote speakers and experts, including Mr Paula Pouvalu Ma’u, Chief Executive Officer for Ministry of Meteorology, Energy, Information, Disaster Management, Environment, Climate Change and Communications of Tonga; Mr Rene Castro, FAO Assistant Di-rector-General, Climate, Biodiversity, Land and Water Department (TBC); Mr Arop Deng, Integration and Support Team Leader, IPPC Secretariat; Mr Ralf Lopian, Chairperson of the IYPH International Steering Committee; and Mr Viliami Kami, Deputy CEO, Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Forestry and Fisheries, Government of Tonga will illustrate how climate change is influencing plant health and what can be done to secure healthy plants in a changing climate.
