Rome, 15 March 2023. The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is pleased to announce the selection of Sarah Brunel as the new IPPC Implementation and Facilitation Unit Lead.
Sarah is a French engineer in Agriculture and holds a Master’s Degree in International Affairs from the Sorbonne University and a Master’s Degree in Anthropology from the French Museum of Natural History. She has over 20 years of progressive national, regional and global experience in plant protection, environmental protection and capacity development.
She started her career in 2001 by managing a pilot programme on invasive alien plants in the South of France, interacting with private stakeholders and the media. In 2005, Sarah became a scientific officer at the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO), specifically working on invasive alien plants, pest risk analysis, environmental issues and phytosanitary measures.
She joined the IPPC Secretariat in 2014 and provided leadership and technical policy expertise for the planning, development and implementation of global and regional programmes of work by managing complex multidisciplinary phytosanitary projects, drafting strategic documents, reports, guides, e-learning materials, scientific and news articles. She oversaw the application of the IPPC Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation tool in various regions and acquired extensive knowledge and experience in implementation and capacity development over the years.
