The IPPC Secretariat is pleased to announce the release of a comprehensive factsheet on the recently concluded project, “Strengthening the capacity of developing Contracting Parties to implement the IPPC under the FAO-China South-South Cooperation (SSC) framework”.
Funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) of China, the project was a major step in enhancing the capacities of developing countries within the region.
The project delivered numerous outcomes including completing phytosanitary capacity evaluations (PCEs) in the two pilot countries, Cambodia and Sri Lanka, publishing prevention, preparedness and response guidelines on Fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda). The project also conducted high-level symposia, workshops, technical training and webinars on critical topics such as integrated pest management (IPM), surveillance, and national reporting obligations (NROs) focused on specific regional needs.
Thanks to deliverables achieved, there has been a tangible impact on livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Cambodia and Sri Lanka and contribution to the global prevention and management of significant plant pests such as Fall Armyworm (FAW) and fruit flies.
