The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) has partnered with the Inter-American Development Bank, The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture'™s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to develop and present a comprehensive training program on pest risk assessment in the Spanish language. This first of its kind program addresses an urgent need for training in pest risk analysis in the Latin American and Caribbean region. Enabling trainees to gain a comprehensive understanding of the principles of risk analysis in their native language is a most highly positive component of this project.
This project will directly benefit participating countries by enhancing their capacity to safeguard domestic agriculture, ensure market access for their export products and thereby provide greater food security for the Latin American and Caribbean region. The collaborative effort involves on-line training, classroom instruction, and an in-depth hands-on program that will provide participants the opportunity to complete a pest risk assessment for a specific commodity of interest.
