Niigata, 11-12 May 2019. The G20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting taking place in Niigata, Japan last weekend reaffirmed the importance of plant health to reach Sustainable Development Goals and encouraged its members and stakeholders to take full advantage of the opportunity of the International Year of Plant Health (IYPH) in 2020.
Under the main theme Toward Sustainable Agro-Food Sector - Emerging Issues and Good Practices, ministers discussed a series of issues ranging from fostering innovative human resources and new technologies, Food Value Chain, and pursuing possible contribution to achieve SDGs.
Participating countries included G20 members, six invited guest countries and eight international organizations including FAO.
The meeting resulted in a G20 Agriculture Ministers Declaration 2019, inclusive of an Annex 1 for Better Plant Health.
