The IPPC Secretariat and the African Union Commission for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment, supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the U.S Department of Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation of Egypt, are organizing the first Train-the-trainer workshop under the Africa Phytosanitary Programme (APP).
The workshop will take place from 25-29 September in Cairo, Egypt. It aims to provide hands-on technical training to about 90 plant health officials from 11 African countries taking part in the initial phase of the APP.
The workshop is a major step in implementing the pilot phase of APP, whose goal is to empower national governments, through national plant protection organizations (NPPOs), with the capacity to safeguard agriculture and natural resources against plant pests.
