The Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection is the central competent authority with responsibilities inter alia in the following phytosanitary areas: - plant health (harmful organisms), including export certification and issuing of phytosanitary certificates; - registration, placing on the market and use of plant protection products (pesticides); - production, processing and placing on the market of agricultural seeds and plant propagating material; - technical requirements in relation to equipment for the application of plant protection products; - registration of producers, importers, traders and other operators, training of their responsible persons and their surveillance; etc.
As NPPO the central competent authority deals with administrative, technical and development functions governing protection of plants and plant products against harmful organisms, including the internal market and international trade under the International Plant Protection Convention.
