The Singapore government has announced that with effective on 1 Apr 2019, a Singapore Food Agency (SFA) will be formed to replace the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) to oversees Singapore’s food safety and security while all non-food animal and plant related functions will be transferred to the National Parks Board (NParks), which will be the lead agency for animal, wildlife management as well as for animal and plant health.
In line with this reorganisation, effective 1 Apr 2019, NParks under the Ministry of National Development is the NPPO of Singapore which is involved in the plant health controls to safeguard plant health and facilitate agri-trade in Singapore.
The Director-General provides the overall strategic overview for all regulatory programme including plant health. The Director of Plant Science & Health ( previous Director, Plant Health Laboratory Department) continues to serve as the official contact point for Singapore under the International Plant Protection Convention.
