In St.Kitts and Nevis the functions of the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) are executed by the Quarantine unit of the Department of Agriculture. The unit consists of the Chief Quarantine officer, one Quarantine officer, two Quarantine assistant and an Agricultural trainee. The key focus and responsibilities of the NPPO is the prevention of the introduction of plant pests, protection of plant resources from exotic plant pests, facilitation of trade in plant and plant products and the regulation of other materials connected to Plant protection. To ensure those responsibilities are carried out the NPPO follows IPPC guidelines. The NPPO ensures food security by conduction PRA's for example ,conducting inspections, surveillances and the issuing of import permits and Phytosanitary certificates.
