On 1 July 2011, the Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) merged with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. On 30 April 2012 the new ministry was formed and became the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). The merger significantly enhances our ability to deliver high-quality services and support to the whole of the primary sector, producers through to processors and exporters. It also enables us to deliver more integrated strategic advice on long-term economic growth through the sustainable management of natural resources used by the primary sector. Our vision is on Growing and Protecting New Zealand. We have developed an organisational strategy to ensure we have a clear path to follow that maximises our opportunities in this area.
