In February 2005, during follow-up inspections after import, palm trees of the species Thrinax parviflora were found infested with Darna trima (Lepidoptera). The palms were imported from Indonesia and the infestation was most likely introduced with these plants. The infested plants were present in a greenhouse where ornamental plants were grown. All plants in the greenhouse were chemically treated according to a schedule in order to eradicate the insect. The progress of the eradication was monitored with light traps in the greenhouse. The treatments were effective in eradication of the organism.
