Argentina comunica la reciente detección de Rhynchophorus ferrugineus sobre ejemplares de palmeras en la isla Martín García, ubicada en el río de La Plata y con una superficie de 1,8km2, constituyendo el primer y único registro de la plaga en territorio argentino. Dicha detección se alcanzó como producto de las acciones de vigilancia implementadas por la ONPF de Argentina (SENASA). El diagnóstico taxonómico fue realizado por el área de entomología del Laboratorio Vegetal del SENASA. Actualmente se está implementando un plan de contingencia con el fin de lograr la contención y erradicación de la plaga.

ENGLISH VERSION Argentina hereby informs on the recent detection of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus in palm trees on Martín García Island, located in De La Plata River with an area of1.8 square kilometers, constituting the first and only record of the pest in Argentine territory. This detection was achieved as a result of surveillance activities implemented by the National Plant Protection Organization of Argentina (SENASA). The taxonomic diagnosis was carried out by the entomology department of the SENASA Laboratory. A contingency plan is currently being implemented to contain and eradicate the pest.
