The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting nominations for appropriately qualified experts to take part in:
A CPM Focus Group on Implementation of the IPPC Strategic Framework 2020-2030 Development Agenda Items
Nominations are due 30 April 2021.NOTE: deadline updated to 3 June 2021!
Experts should be available to attend the CPM Focus Group meetings, planned to be held virtually every three months or as needed and tentatively scheduled from July 2021 until April 2022. The timing of virtual meetings will rotate and sometimes meetings will be held at unusual times, so participants are expected to be flexible. Participants should also have a good internet connection and access to virtual meetings devices. The meeting will be held in English.
1. Instructions for making nominations
Nominations will be accepted from contracting parties, national or regional plant protection organizations (NPPOs or RPPOs) and international entities.
A nomination should only be made if the nominee has agreed to his/her nomination and can allocate appropriate time to the task as outlined in the Statement of Commitment.
Each nomination must be accompanied by the following documentation, available on this webpage:
Completed Nominee details and summary of expertise form - All sections should be completed, including contact details, education and professional training. A clear description of the nominee’s expertise is required. MS Word version of the document is preferred. The file should be named as follows: COUNTRY_SURNAME_Firstname_Summary.
Completed and signed Statement of Commitment - this should be read carefully by each nominee and discussed between the nominee and their employer. The form should then be signed by the nominee and a senior person in authority from the organization that employs the nominee and submitted with the nomination (as a file such as PDF). The file should be named as follows: COUNTRY_SURNAME_Firstname_commitment.
The nominee’s Curriculum Vitae (CV) – electronic copy of the nominee’s CV (only as a word processing file such as MS Word) with the file named as follows: COUNTRY_SURNAME_Firstname_CV. MS Word version of the document is preferred.
Submissions should be sent to the IPPC Secretariat by e-mail [email protected] with copy to Mr. Arop DENG ([email protected]) no later than 17 MAY 2021. The name of the nominating country or RPPO and the words “Call for Experts for CPM Focus Group on Implementation of the IPPC Strategic Framework 2020-2030 Development Agenda Items” should be placed in the subject line of the email message.
2. Specific expertise required
The nominations will be reviewed considering the composition and criteria specified in the Terms of Reference for the Focus Group. The CPM Bureau will make the selection of experts based on the information provided in the nomination. Selected experts will be contacted by the IPPC Secretariat.
Composition and criteria for the selection of experts for the CPM Focus Group on Implementation of the IPPC Strategic Framework 2020-2030 Development Agenda Items (see Terms of Reference of the Focus Group ):
In terms of composition, the focus group is skills and knowledge based and should be composed of up to eleven members (noting that experts may represent more than one role) as follows:
Seven members representing national plant protection organizations in each of seven FAO regions
One representative of the ten regional plant protection organizations (RPPOs)
One representative of the CPM Bureau
One representative of the Standards Committee (SC)
One representative of the Implementation and Capacity Development Committee (IC).
Criteria for experts, they should have combined expertise and knowledge in:
Expertise on phytosanitary matters
Experience with an NPPO or RPPO
Practical experience in implementing strategic frameworks or strategic plans
Experience in addressing issues of the IPPC SF 2020-2030 development agenda items
Providing practical guidance and advice to the IPPC community on key technical aspects related to the strategic objectives of the IPPC’s Strategic Framework, which are enhancing global food security and increasing sustainable agricultural productivity, protecting forests and the environment from the impacts of plant pests, and facilitating safe trade, development and economic growth.
