Dear IPPC colleagues,
As you are aware, the thirteenth session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM-13) is approaching, and will be held at FAO HQs in Rome from 16 to 20 April 2018.
One of the crucial topics in the agenda for CPM-13 is the discussion over the IPPC Strategic Framework for 2020-2030. Contracting parties attending CPM-13 will have a valuable opportunity to provide strategic feedback on this essential document.
This is a valuable opportunity that does not arise often. You are invited to carefully consider the IPPC Strategic Framework for 2020-2030 before your trip to Rome so you will be able to provide thoughtful feedback on the key elements of our plan.
A relevant CPM paper (CPM 2018/28) has been posted on the IPP and all contracting parties and observers to the meeting are encouraged to read it and be prepared to give comments on the main components of the Strategic Framework.
This Framework will establish the strategic direction and highest priority initiative the Commission will pursue through to 2030. In addition to our core functions, our proposed priorities are contained within a new IPPC Development Agenda . When implemented, this suite of priorities will make a real difference for contracting parties. They also create tangible opportunities for contracting parties and donors to direct funds to areas that will have measurable impacts. It is important we receive clear direction on the proposed priorities at this meeting. The Framework is still draft so editorial comments are wanted at this stage. At the meeting we will be providing an opportunity to give substantive comments on the high-level elements of the document - the vision, mission, goals, objectives and IPPC development agenda priorities.
After feedback has been received, the CPM-13 will decide if a full and formal country consultation process is required. Thanks in advance for your active participation.
Yours sincerely,
Jingyuan Xia
IPPC Secretary
