ISPM-15 International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures came into force on 1 January 2004. In Slovenia it was implemented to fulfil phytosanitary requirements for wood packaging material that is made of raw wood and is used in international trade (pallets, pallet cases, packing cases, drums (spools/reels), dunnage, spacers, holders, pallet frames, etc.) by Rules on phytosanitary requirements for wood packaging material in international trade (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No 108/04 of 7 October 2004). For import purposes it was implemented in Slovenia by amendment of the EU Directive 2000/29/EC, which provides for that all wood packaging material that is imported into the European Union after 1 March 2005 must comply with the technical requirements in accordance with the ISPM-15. In 2009, the ISPM-15 was subject to revision, which was implemented by amendment of national regulation (Rules amending rules on phytosanitary requirements for wood packaging material in international trade; Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No 101/10 of 13 December 2010). In Slovenia heat treatment is the only method of wood processing before marking of WPM.
