Resumen

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) confirmed detection of the pathogen Ralstonia solanacearum race 3 biovar 2 (Rs R3bv2) in a symptomatic geranium (Pelargonium sp.) sample taken from an Ontario greenhouse. The plants were already under official control at the premises to prohibit movement pending inspection and disposal in response to earlier reports of Rs R3bv2 associated with imported geranium from Guatemala. Rs R3bv2, commonly referred to as Southern wilt, bacterial wilt, and brown rot of potato, causes a wilt disease in several important agricultural crops such as potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. The geranium sample that tested positive was from a Fantasia ‘Pink Flare’ variety geranium, which had been imported from a production facility in Guatemala. The grower is cooperating fully in the investigation, has destroyed all Fantasia ‘Pink Flare’ on the premises and is carrying out disinfection in accordance with CFIA instructions. CFIA has inspected all greenhouses that received Fantasia ‘Pink Flare’ geranium cuttings and liners, collecting trace-forward information, and destroying all Fantasia ‘Pink Flare’ geraniums and co-mingled and exposed host and non-host plants. Cleaning and disinfecting the greenhouses will follow approved methods.

L'Agence canadienne d'inspection des aliments (ACIA) a confirmé la détection du pathogène Ralstonia solanacearum race 3 biovar 2 (Rs R3bv2) dans un échantillon de géranium symptomatique (Pelargonium sp.) prélevé dans une serre de l'Ontario. Les plantes étaient déjà sous contrôle officiel dans les locaux pour interdire tout mouvement en attendant l'inspection et l'élimination, en réponse à des rapports antérieurs faisant état de Rs R3bv2 associés à du géranium importé du Guatemala. Rs R3bv2, communément appelé flétrissure bactérienne et pourriture brune de la pomme de terre, provoque une maladie de flétrissement dans plusieurs cultures agricoles importantes telles que les pommes de terre, les tomates, les poivrons et les aubergines. L'échantillon de géranium qui s'est avéré positif provenait d'un géranium de la variété Fantasia 'Pink Flare', qui avait été importé d'un établissement de production au Guatemala. Le producteur coopère pleinement à l'enquête, a détruit tous les Fantasia 'Pink Flare' sur place et procède à la désinfection conformément aux instructions de l'ACIA. L'ACIA a inspecté toutes les serres ayant reçu des boutures et des plateaux de géraniums Fantasia 'Pink Flare', recueillant des informations de traçabilité en amont et détruisant tous les géraniums Fantasia 'Pink Flare' et les plantes hôtes et non-hôtes mélangées et exposées.
