IPPC Pest Alert – Rhizoctonia theobromae

The IPPC Secretariat has released a new POARS Pest Alert regarding Rhizoctonia theobromae, a fungal pathogen responsible for causing Vascular Streak Dieback in cacao and symptoms similar to Witches’ Broom in cassava. Recent reports indicate that this pathogen has a wider distribution and is having a greater impact on important tropical crops, meeting the IPPC's criteria for emerging pests.
