- Bactrocera dorsalis is considered to be present, actionable and under official control in the above mentioned provinces of South Africa and their associated Municipal Districts. Bactrocera dorsalis is absent in the following areas: •Gert Sibande District Municipality, North West province, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality and Dr Ruth S. Mompati District Municipality in Mpumalanga province; •Amajuba District Municipality, uMgungundlovu District Municipality, uMzinyathi District Municipality, uThukela District Municipality and the Zululand District Municipality in Kwazulu Natal province,; •Namakwa District Municipality and Pixley ka Seme District Municipality in Northern Cape province; •The City of Johannesburg, West Rand, Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng in Gauteng province,; •Free State, Eastern Cape and, Western Cape provinces. There were no detections of B. dorsalis for more than 12 weeks, or three life cycles, after the last fruit fly was detected in the John Taolo Gaetsewe, Frances Baard and Z.F. Mgcawu District Municipality in the Northern Cape province, after July 2014. The status of the pest in these areas including the whole of the Northern Cape province is now Absent: Pest eradicated or no longer present.
