The IPPC International Symposium for Pest Free Areas and Surveillance is to be held in Shizuoka, Japan between 28 October and 1 November 2019.
Participants of the Symposium - Representatives of contracting parties (CPs) and National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs), Regional Plant Protection Organizations (RPPOs), FAO Regional and sub- regional offices, international, intergovernmental, educational and scientific organizations and private sector/service providers involved in phytosanitary activities and trade are invited to submit abstracts for:

Participants wishing to present an oral communication or a poster should fill in an abstract submission form available at https://www.ippc.int/en/publications/87232/ The preference of oral vs. poster presentation should be indicated by the applicant in the submission form (please tick where appropriate on the form).
Submitted abstracts of case studies at national or regional levels and posters should address one of the five main themes of the Symposium:
Presentations should focus on and highlight key factors or activities that have led to successes in your program (case study) or particular problems your program has faced and how you overcame them, as opposed to broad general program overviews.
Completed abstract submission forms should be sent to Ms Ketevan Lomsadze ([email protected]) and Ms Masumi Yamamoto ([email protected]) with the subject line "Abstract for the IPPC International Symposium for PFAs and Surveillance". The relevant Symposium theme should be indicated in the text of the email.
Deadline for the submission of abstracts is 30 June 2019. As there is still space for a few more proposals for presentations, the Secretariat has extended the deadline to 22 July 2019 for the following:
Out of the submitted proposals for each of the five themes, case presentations as per the Programme of the Symposium will be reviewed for acceptance by the Technical Committee (TC) of the Symposium. The list of the TC members is available here.
Selected authors will be informed by 21 July 2019.
The accepted abstracts will be published in a book of abstracts distributed to all symposium attendants.
Oral presentations will be a maximum of 15 minutes. Because of symposium time limitations, oral presentations that are not selected will be encouraged to be submitted for poster presentations.

Please note that the presenting authors of accepted Poster Presentations are responsible for the design and printing of their own poster.
