The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) secretariat is calling for information materials to support the development of the international commodity standard for Vitis vinifera fruit (2023-018), as an annex to ISPM 46.
This commodity standard applies to the fresh fruit of Vitis vinifera. It applies to fresh Vitis vinifera fruit without leaves, tendrils, canes and branches, either with or without the inflorescence cluster (rachis, peduncle or the pedicel) attached. The standard applies to fruit that has been produced for international trade and is intended for consumption or processing in an importing country. It does not apply to processed fruit (e.g. jam, jelly, or dried, canned, frozen or pureed fruit) nor does it apply to grape pomace or grape seeds. Contracting parties, including through Regional Plant Protection Organizations (RPPOs), are invited to submit supporting materials based on practical experience in the movement of this commodity in international trade.
For the purposes of this standard, only pests that are subject to regulation, protocols, or bilateral agreements based on technical justification, in accordance with the IPPC, will be considered. The same requirement applies to phytosanitary measures that are intended to be shared, which should be described in a clear and detailed manner and should be linked to individual pests.
The relevance and quality of the information provided is critical; submissions should therefore be aligned with the defined scope, the commodity description, and take into account the exclusion criteria available in the submission form to ensure they meaningfully contribute to the development of the standard.
Your contributions are essential for developing robust international standards and enhancing global cooperation in plant health!
Submitters should use the Excel Submission Form for Information Materials for Commodity Standards, developed by the IPPC Technical Panel on Commodity Standards (TPCS) and refer to the submission instructions below in this page.
As the TPCS is scheduled to meet in 2026 to draft this standard annex, it is expected that the first version will be presented to the IPPC Standards Committee in May 2027 for approval for first consultation period.
To support this timeline, all submissions must be received by 15 August 2026.
