The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) are proposing a cooperative program to eradicate the Oriental Fruit Fly (OFF) infestation and prevent the spread of OFF to non-infested areas of the United States. APHIS and its cooperating partners have discussed and comprehensively analyzed alternatives for the OFF eradication since 1984. This environmental assessment (EA) analyzes the environmental consequences of alternatives considered for OFF eradication, and analyzes from a site-specific perspective, environmental issues relevant to this particular program. The eradication measures being considered for this program were discussed and comprehensively analyzed within APHIS’ fruit fly chemical risk assessments (APHIS, 2015a, 2014a, 2003, 1999, 1998a, and 1998b).
