Call for NPPO experts from small island developing States in the Caribbean to join a CBD workshop.

Posted on Mar, 06 Jun 2017, 09:00

The Secretariat to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is holding a capacity-building workshop towards achieving Aichi Biodiversity Target 9, scheduled to take place from 18 to 22 September 2017 in Kingston, Jamaica. This workshop is open to CBD Parties of small island developing States (SIDS) in the Caribbean. One of the mandates of this workshop is to encourage national cooperation between CBD and IPPC focal points.

With the generous financial support from the Government of Japan and the UNEP Caribbean Sub-Regional Office, the workshop will facilitate the technical and scientific cooperation to put comprehensive measures that address risks posed by invasive alien species, pests and pathogenic agents in place.

Accordingly, the Secretariat would like to invite each Party to nominate two participants:

(a) One expert in a position to implement the Convention and the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011 2020, in particular for achieving Aichi Biodiversity Target 9 on invasive alien species; and

(b) One expert from the national plant protection organization in a position to implement the International Plant Protection Convention and International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures.

NPPOs who are interested in participating in this workshop should complete the form available at https://www.cbd.int/doc/notifications/2017/ntf-2017-042-ias-en.doc and liaise with their CBD national focal point. Contact details for the CBD national focal point s in the Caribbean can be found at https://www.cbd.int/doc/lists/nfp-cbd.pdf
