Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel), commonly known as the oriental fruit fly, is regulated through the Plant Protection Act of 2000 (7 U.S.C. 7701-7772) and relevant Parts of the Code of Federal Regulations (7 CFR – Agriculture) of the U.S. The host plants of B. dorsalis are listed, albeit incomplete and outdated, under paragraphs (a), (b) or (c) of §301.32-2 Regulated articles. In accordance with §301.32-2(d), the 432 fruit-bearing plant species belonging to 73 families and 210 genera summarized in this document together constitute the provisional list of federally regulated host plants of B. dorsalis until a thorough host review is completed. Hosts plants included thus far in this provisional list have recorded infestations by B. dorsalis under natural field conditions. Each validated host plant in this document satisfies the definition and attributes of a suitable host plant as stipulated in the North American Plant Protection Organization (NAPPO) Regional Standard for Phytosanitary Management (RSPM) No. 30, “Guidelines for the Determination and Designation of Host Status of a Fruit or Vegetable for Fruit Flies (Diptera: Tephritidae),” and “Guidelines for Plant Pest Risk Assessment of Imported Fruit and Vegetable Commodities” of the United States Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Plant Protection and Quarantine. Unless proven otherwise, all cultivars, varieties, and hybrids of the plant species listed herein are considered suitable hosts of B. dorsalis. The list of suitable host plants presented here supersedes all previous B. dorsalis host listings of the USDA. This document is an integral component of the ongoing USDA project on the “Compendium of Fruit Fly Host Information (CoFFHI).” Provisional List of Suitable Host Plants of Oriental Fruit Fly, Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) (Diptera: Tephritidae)
