The IPPC Secretariat is pleased to announce the release of a new publication titled "Use and implementation of Codex, IPPC and WOAH standards: How do the three sisters monitor the impact of their work?”
This joint publication, a joint effort by the IPPC, Codex Alimentarius and the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) within the framework of their respective Observatories, explores the critical role of the three organizations.
Collectively known as the "Three Sisters," these organizations are recognized as key standard-setting bodies under the World Trade Organization's Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures Agreement. Observatories established by the IPPC, WOAH, and Codex play a vital role in monitoring and analyzing global trends, challenges, and compliance in plant health, animal health, and food safety, enabling data-driven decision-making to strengthen international standards and policies.
The publication explores how and why each of the Three Sisters monitors the use and impact of their standards, highlights the challenges they face, and emphasizes the importance of active member country engagement in both setting and implementing these standards to enhance global trade harmonization. This marks the first collaborative effort of the Three Sisters within the framework of their respective Observatories.
