The organization of IPPC Regional Workshops are a priority for the IPPC Secretariat, as these workshops help participants understand the phytosanitary realities and challenges of each region. Participants and the Secretariat also receive input on how to better integrate these realities into the IPPC work plan.
In the past few years, the CPM decision to change the purpose of the IPPC Regional Workshops has been implemented. There are therefore 3 objectives to the IPPC Regional Workshop:
Recently, the IPPC Regional Workshops have been re-organized as a forum for the exchange of ideas and feedback between NPPOs, RPPOs, FAO offices, cooperation institutions and the IPPC Secretariat. New alliances have been established with the organizers and more interactive activities have been included in the agenda. These new ways of operating allow the IPPC Secretariat to get a better understanding of NPPOs concerns, and to promote synergies and collaboration between all interested parties.
Guidelines for IPPC Regional Workshops have been noted by CPM-14 (2019).
Draft ISPMs are available on the International Phytosanitary Portal on the member consultation webpage. All presentations for the 2020 IPPC Regional Workshops are available on the dedicated webpage, and can be used by countries.
The Regional IPPC workshops will be using the IPPC Online Comment System (OCS) and we hope this will enhance the ability for contacting parties to formulate and share their national comments on these draft ISPMs.
Reports from the IPPC Regional Workshops, once completed, will be posted below.
